Former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal launched a scathing jibe at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), asking it to learn ‘professionalism’ from the BCCI. His remarks come amid the ongoing crisis in the country’s cricket. Kamran Akmal compared the sorry state of affairs in Pakistan cricket team to the excellence of the Indian cricket team and blamed the ego of the PCB officials for the downfall of Pakistan cricket.

Kamran Akmal wants Pakistan to take a leaf out of India’s book

Kamran Akmal’s remarks come amid a range of issues plaguing the cricket board and the national team. The problems range from selection issues to bureaucracy interference to captaincy.

PCB should learn from BCCI, their professionalism, their team, selector, captain, and coaches. These are the things that make a team number one and dominate the world. If we were so good, then Pakistan cricket wouldn’t be here. It is because of your ego Pakistan cricket is suffering,” Kamran Akmal said on his YouTube channel.

In a desperate attempt to hit the reset button once again, the Pakistan Cricket Board has organized a ‘connection camp’ in Lahore on September 23. Head coaches Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespe, along with players including white-ball skipper Babar Azam, red-ball skipper Shan Masood, pacer Shaheen Afridi, keeper Mohammed Rizwan and batter Saim Ayub are among the few who have been invited to the camp. The camp will feature discussions over the team’s roadmap for the future and preparation for the Champipons Trophy 2025.

Pakistan’s performance and captaincy

This year, Pakistan’s performance has been extremely poor. They’ve just won one series across all formats; that too came against Ireland. They played 2 T20I series against New Zealand (losing 4-1 once and drawing to their ‘F’ side 2-2), and against England, they suffered a 2-0 defeat in T20Is (two matches were washed off).

The worst was the loss to the USA at the T20 World Cup and their subsequent elimination from the group stage. While coaches Gary Kirsten and Gillespie have urged the PCB to not make any immediate changes to the leadership, it remains to be seen what will be the future of Babar Azam and Shan Masood.
