India’s long and arduous Test season has begun. In fact India recorded a comprehensive 280 run win against Bangladesh in the IND vs BAN 1st Test in Chennai. While the team has performed well across all departments, the two senior batters, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were the only failures across both the innings.

The India Cricket Team were tasked to bat first after Bangladesh won the toss and opted to field in Chennai. In the first innings, the top order save Yashasvi Jaiswal faltered. But then in the second innings, the other batters prevailed save Rohit and Kohli. The two senior batters failed on both the innings, much to the dismay of the fans.

Twin Failures for Ro-Ko in Chennai

On Day 1 of Chennai Test, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were dispatched after scoring 6 runs each. Both the batters fell victim to Hasan Mahmud as the Bangladeshi pacer scalped a 5-wicket haul. While Rohit remained on the crease for 19 deliveries, Kohli’s stay on the crease was however short-lived with just 6 balls.

Albeit, the top order failure, it was Ashwin and Jadeja who held the reins of the team. Ashwin hammered a brilliant ton while Jadeja managed to register a brilliant 86, thereby taking India’s total to 376 runs. But then the Indian bowlers weaved their magic and bundled out Bangladesh for just 149 runs.

India came out to bat again and amidst huge expectations, both Rohit and Kohli failed again. Rohit continued in his single digit score, scoring 5 runs from 7 balls, eventually being dismissed by Taskin Ahmed. Kohli on the other hand, had a slightly larger stay of 17 runs from from 37 balls before being scalped by Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

While the entire team contributed with the bat and ball across both the innings, it was however the stalwarts who failed. A little leeway could be given to Kohli who is playing his first Test match in the year. But with the red ball season just starting, it is imperative that both Ro-Ko fire on all cylinders when India take on Bangladesh in Kanpur next.
