The IND vs BAN Test series is over, while up next it will be the IND vs NZ series. But the prime focus of the India Cricket Team would be the Border Gavaskar Trophy later in the year. While the series is extremely important for WTC Standings, it also can be a career defining series for a player – Abhimanyu Eashwaran.

The Bengal opener is currently in a rich vein of form. After dominating the Duleep Trophy he went on to hammer a stunning century in Irani Cup for the Rest of India. On a slow turning pitch at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, he parried hard against Mumbai, slamming 151 runs from just 212 deliveries.

Will Abhimanyu Eashwaran get chance in BGT?

One of the biggest hurdles for Abhimanyu Eashwaran would be to topple Ruturaj Gaikwad. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the openers for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. And Ruturaj Gaikwad is likely to be selected as the backup keeper in the squad. However, his form hasn’t been up to the mark.

On the other hand, the 29-year old Eashwaran is vying for a chance in the team. He is almost a sure name in the India A who would be shadow touring Australia, but his aim would be to get a chance in the India Cricket Team.

Previously he was a part of the BGT series when India toured Australia in 2020-21 and in the Test series against England in 2021 and 2022. But his luck hasn’t been favouring him in getting a chance to play for his national team.

His domestic performances showcase that he easily deserves a place in the team, if not then the Test squad at least. With three consecutive first class hundreds, and fourth in the season, his form and class speaks volumes of him getting a chance. In the recently concluded Duleep Trophy, he was the second highest run getter with 309 runs and Two tons.
