El funcionario del BCB, Shakib Al Hasan, ha insinuado que podría jugar la prueba de despedida en casa con un apoyo cada vez mayor, a pesar de los desafíos de su participación política.
Bangladesh cricket legend Shakib Al Hasan could play his desired farewell Test match at home, with increasing backing from top officials. According to a report by Cricbuzz, a senior official from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) revealed they are working to bring Shakib back for the upcoming Test series against South Africa. The official suggested that Shakib’s brief political stint might actually favour his return.“You cannot put fingers at politician Shakib considering he just won the election but it lasted not even for more than six months so, how could he be punished on corruption. It’s true that he is paying the price of joining a certain political party but at the same time you need to understand that he didn’t do much as a politician since winning in the general election“, the official explained.
Shakib is likely to inform the BCB soon about his availability for the South Africa series, moving closer to playing his farewell Test in front of his home fans.
Personal wish for Shakib’s final test
Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain expressed his hope that Shakib gets the chance to end his Test career in Bangladesh. “Shakib has contributed a lot to the nation. Since he wants to play his final Test at home, I personally wish he gets that opportunity,” Bhuyain said during the Women’s T20 World Cup match between Bangladesh and Scotland on October 3.
Ensuring security for Shakib
Bhuyain assured that the BCB would provide top-level security for Shakib, but clarified that any allegations against the all-rounder would be handled by the Ministry of Law. “We are committed to ensuring Shakib’s security, and we will stand by that commitment,” he added.
Shakib’s political stance and final test hopes
Earlier, Bhuyain had urged Shakib to clarify his political stance before providing security. This shift in Bhuyain’s approach has raised hopes that Shakib may play his final Test at Mirpur, despite the hurdles from his brief political career. Shakib, who was previously a lawmaker, faced allegations in a murder case last month and expressed concerns for his safety while in Kanpur during a Test series against India.
