A Times Now report claims that the game was organized at the venue amid the rainy season because few members of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and Greater Noida Authority allegedly wanted to ‘make money’. Play was called off consecutively on the first two days after the wet outfield couldn’t be made game-ready despite no rain during the day.

As per Times Now, a source reportedly claimed that some officials of ACB and the Greater Noida Authority wanted organized the match at Shahid Vijay Pathik Sports Complex Stadium in Greater Noida in order to ‘make money’.

This stadium comes under Greater Noida Authority. Some of its people and some people from Afghanistan Cricket organised a match in Greater Noida during the rainy season to make money,” a source allegedly told Times Now.

The report further claims that the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) reportedly contacted the ACB several times. The board allegedly offered to host the game at Green Park in Kanpur. UPCA reportedly offered all the assistance to the ACB.

UPCA called several times to say let’s have a meeting. We will give you whatever you need. We have experience, it will be easy for you. UPCA said that the match should be held in Green Park because UP League is being held in Ekana,” the source added.

The match was supposed to start on Monday, but rain and wet outfield meant that the entire day was washed out. No play was possible on the second day of the Test as well, as wet patches had emerged all over the ground. The Greater Noida groundsmen tried grafting a dry patch from the nets area to the main ground, and also tried to dry wet patches using fans. But nothing could make match start.
