As many as 16 Elite Group and three Plate Group games kicked off the campaign, with all being high-quality ones. As many as seven centuries were scored on Day 1 of the first round, with Gujarat’s Manan Hingrajia top-scoring with his unbeaten 174*.

Mumbai start well but Baroda show vigil

Defending champions Mumbai started their defence against Baroda. While rain threatened the match in Vadodara, we saw the completion of 87 overs. Two-fer from Tanush Kotian and new-ball threat from Mohit Avasthi and Shardul Thakur floored Baroda at 90/5. Mumbai would’ve hoped to rattle them. However, wicket-keeper Mitesh Patel saved the day for Baroda, hammering 86. He swept and reverse-swept his way against the spinners and had assistance from Atit Sheth, who remained unbeaten at 60.

Rajat Patidar flops for MP

Ranji Trophy 2022 winners Madhya Pradesh hosted a strong-looking Karnataka unit in Indore. Batting first, they ended on 232/4 after 83 overs. They lost wickets at regular intervals, with Rajat Patidar kicking off with a score of 31. Skipper Shubham Sharma made 40. Thanks to Harpreet Singh Bhatia’s 75*, Madhya Pradesh are well on course to hammer over 300 runs. Prasidh Krishna only bowled 8 overs but took one wicket of Himanshu Mantri.

RCB’s Suyash Prabhudessai hammers a ton for Goa

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) talented batter Suyash Prabhudessai clubbed a century while opening for Goa in their Plate group match against Manipur. While Goa were 76/3 at one point, Suyash continued his march and made 120 runs off 190, hammering 17 fours in the process. Due to this, Goa ended the day at 302/7 runs.
