¿Por qué el BCCI no seleccionó a Mohammed Shami en el Trofeo Fronterizo Gavaskar?

Shami jugó por última vez con India en la final ODI de 2023 hace un año, tras lo cual sufrió una lesión con un cuchillo.

The BCCI announced the India squad for the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy the other day. The biggest name missing from the list was Mohammed Shami. The ace pacer was expected to rejoin the India Cricket Team squad after his injury. But as things stand, Shami will continue to recover and won’t play any part in the IND vs AUS Test series.

It was slated that Shami will be missing the first two Test matches of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, but then would be featuring the remainder of the series. In the meantime, Shami would be playing at least two Ranji Trophy matches for Bengal to build on his fitness.

But Mohammed Shami hasn’t been rushed. The BCCI decided that Shami would recover in time and be ready for Team India in the grand scheme of things. It is without a shred of doubt that Shami is the best bowler in the country alongside Jasprit Bumrah, but rushing a player from injury can prove worse.

BCCI takes no chance for undercooked Shami

India will be focusing on unleashing the speedster in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. Meanwhile, Shami would be playing domestic cricket to build on his match fitness. Shami last played for India in the ODI World Cup final, before undergoing surgery on his injured ankle.

Previously, India Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma made it clear that the team doesn’t want to take an undercooked Shami to Australia.

To be honest, it is difficult to make a call on Mohammed Shami for the Australia Test series. “He recently had a setback. He had a swelling in his knee, which was quite unusual while he was in the process of getting fit, getting close to 100%. That put him back a little bit in his recovery,” the Indian Test captain said on the eve of the India vs New Zealand 1st Test.

With important series like Champions Trophy and WTC Finals on the horizon, India wants Shami to recover well and remain fresh before playing him on the field.
