RCB decidió retener a Yash Dayal sobre Mohammad Siraj antes de la subasta IPL 2025, prefiriendo un jugador joven a un veterano.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) may have committed a huge blunder by releasing Mohammed Siraj ahead of IPL 2025 auction. The Hyderabad pacer has been a household name when it comes to the franchise and his retention comes as a surprise to many. Instead of opting for the veteran, RCB have decided to retain uncapped Yash Dayal instead, which could prove to be a risky gamble.
Will choosing Yash Dayal over Siraj work for RCB in IPL 2025?
Mohammed Siraj has been a part of RCB ever since he was bagged at the auction ahead of the 2018 season for Rs 2.20 cr. An integral part of the side, the pacer has gone on to spearhead the bowling department over the last few years and has been one of their most consistent bowlers. With 93 wickets from 93 matches to his name, Siraj is arguably one of the best bowlers produced by RCB. His best season came in 2023 when he bagged 19 wickets in that season.
Latest news
Yash Dayal had a rather awful start to his RCB career after being hammered for five consecutive sixes by Rinku Singh. He bounced back in a strong fashion in IPL 2024, taking 15 wickets to join Siraj as one of the leading wicket-takers for the team in the edition. However, his overall tally isn’t that great, given that he has only 28 wickets from 28 IPL matches.
While RCB have chosen Yash Dayal over Mohammed Siraj, given the dip in the latter’s form in T20Is, it still remains as a risky gamble. While Dayal has earned the praise of RCB’s coaches for his ability to swing the ball both ways, one cannot forget Siraj’s contribution for RCB. The team is certain to use the Right to Match (RTM) card to lure the pacer back in to the side and must rightfully do so, in order to build a strong bowling line-up.
