If there is one thing that India could be happy about in their miserable outing against Australia A, it is the performance of the pacers. The Prasidh Krishna-led unit tasted success in the 2nd unofficial Test against Australia A while India A’s batting woes continued. The trio of Krishna, Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed shared 9 wickets between themselves, helping IND A bundle out Australia for 223 runs in the 1st innings.

Big boost for India’s bowling unit ahead of IND vs AUS Test series

All three pacers – Krishna, Mukesh and Khaleel – are a part of India’s squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. While Prasidh Krishna is in the squad, the other two will be a part of the traveling reserves. It looks like India A’s bowlers are reaping the rewards of this Australia A tour before the BGT, and it comes at the right time for Rohit Sharma and co as well.

Prasidh Krishna finished with a spell of 4/50 in the 1st innings while Mukesh Kumar ended with 3/41. Both the bowlers have been consistent so far in the tour, with the duo tasting more success than the rest of the team. Khaleel Ahmed has been decent with the ball as well across the last two games. It is pertinent to point out that all three pacers have been grinding it out in the domestic circuit over the last few months as they aim to regain a spot in the Indian Test side.

Prasidh Krishna inches closer to cementing spot in XI

Out of the three India A pacers, Prasidh Krishna is the frontrunner to make it to India’s XI first. Why? Because naturally he has been named in the squad while the other two are traveling reserves. Which means Krishna stands a strong chance to make it to the XI and he could use this preparation in Down Under ahead of IND vs AUS Tests to boost India’s bowling prospects. India’s pace battery will be led by veteran Jasprit Bumrah and comprises of Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Krishna and Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Why Prasidh Krishna will be a better fit for India?

India will be playing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series without the services of Mohammed Shami. Siraj has not been in great form this year and has tasted very minimal success despite playing consistently. While Akash Deep has made a name for himself, one must not forget that he will not be playing at home this time and the conditions are very different. This puts Prasidh Krishna is a pole position to cement his place in the XI. With his height serving as a major advantage, he could be menace for Australia on one end and Bumrah on the other.

Not to forget, Krishna’s first-class experience will be very valuable. In just 20 games, the pacer already has 69 wickets to his name and has been a regular in Karnataka’s XI. Prior to the Australia A tour, Krishna played in the opening round of Ranji Trophy, the Irani Cup and the Duleep Trophy.
